UNLIKE SEPTAL LESIONS, HIPPOCAMPAL LESIONS FAILED TO EXAGGERATE CONSUMMATORY REACTIVITY TO POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TASTE PROPERTIES OF SOLUTIONS IN HOLTZMAN MALE RATS. CONSISTENT WITH THESE DIFFERENTIAL EFFECTS, THE 2 LESIONS DIFFERENTIALLY AFFECTED LEVER PRESSING FOR SUCROSE ON A FIXED INTERVAL (FI) 60 SCHEDULE. DURING EACH FI BOTH LESIONS EQUALLY DISRUPTED SUPPRESSION OF RESPONSE DURING EARLY SEGMENTS, BUT ONLY SEPTAL LESIONS ENHANCED TERMINAL RATES. THESE EFFECTS WERE NOT CONTINGENT UPON FOOD DEPRIVATION AND WERE MORE PRONOUNCED UNDER NONDEPRIVED CONDITIONS.
