<正> This paper proposes a new technique for dynamic systemmodeling by Cellular Automata(CA).CA is a discretemodeling procedure of information flow, and has beenapplied to various problems in engineering field since thebeginning of 1970s.The applications of CA includeLattice Gas Automata in numerical fluid engineering,Petri-net modeling in graph theory,Lindenmayer systemin biology, and multi-agent modeling in roboticsengineering and other fields. The general idea ofmodeling a system by CA is described first in this paper, and several applications of two-dimensional CA toengineering problems such as pattern formation ofgranular materials,advection-diffusion problems, andpassenger flow modeling in a hall.Through thesemodeling procedures,CA is revealed as a more universalmodeling technique than partial differential equationswhich have been considered as one of the most popularand the most effective method in modeling physicalphenomena.
