<正>After briefly reviewing the historical development of arch bridge in China before the 70 s, this paper describes the new techniques of arch bridges developed in the last 10 years. The rigid-frame arch bridge is a new type of bridges developed on the basis of the two-way curved arch,rib arch and trussed arch.It has the advantages of light structure, better integrity,simple shape,easy construction,material saving and low cost,and is be- ing widely used for long-and medium-span bridges.Many innovative methods on the arch bridge have promoted the development of box arch bridge,the longest span of which has reached 240m.The composite trussed arch system,which is developed from the trussed arch bridge,is another major innovation in bridge development.Combined with prestressing andcantilever method,it has become a preferred type of structure for long-span arch bridges.The Jiangjie River Bridge,which is being constructed from 1990, has a span of 330 m.The development and application of the jacking-back method for eliminating the horizontal displacement due to abutment movement has widened the scope of application of the concrete arch bridge.
