IN VIVO STUDIES OF [ME-3H]CHOLINE AND [1,2-14C2]CHOLINE INCORPORATION INTO LUNG AND LIVER LECITHINS

A comparison has been made of [Me-3H]choline and [1,2-14C2]choline incorporation in vivo into the lecithins and the sphingomyelin of lung and liver. The data obtained suggest that in liver, but not in lung, (a) there is significant reincoporation of choline methyl groups into arachidonoyllecithin; (b) there is choline incorporation into linoleoyllecithin not involving CDP-choline; (c) and a disproportionate amount of the choline incorporated into sphingomyelin is endogenously synthesized and not derived from the free choline pool. © 1969.
