Retention and inversion in bimolecular substitution reactions of methane

摘要
Non-empirical calculations on the geometry of the CH5+ and CH5- ions are reported. From the results it can be concluded that bimolecular nucleophilic and electrophilic substitution reactions at a saturated carbon atom proceed with inversion and retention of configuration, respectively.
