摘要
The article discusses the convergence of two potentially positive trends that may help to reduce poverty and environmental deterioration in Central America - the creation of networks by grassroots and environmental organizations, and the spread of information and communications technology. The article is based on research in six highly endangered, protected areas in Central America. It discusses emerging trends in "connectedness" at local, national, regional, and international levels. Looking to the future, it concludes that "informational empowerment" can be a practical strategy for reducing poverty and environmental degradation.
