This paper re-examines the existence of an Environmental Kuznets Curve across countries using a semi-parametric regression estimator, which places no restrictions on the functional form. In our specification against a linear model and using bootstrapped values, we are unable to reject a linear relationship. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
