The future of the application of the concept of a solar-hydrogen economy is discussed. Several ideas from university laboratories in the last 10 years but which may be subject to development and practical exploitation in the next 25 years are presented. The topics discussed include: the gross national product of several nations as a function of the energy consumption per capita; relative costs of photovoltaic and nuclear electricity; hydrogen energy systems; safety aspects of hydrogen fuel in comparison to methane; and solar-hydrogen energy systems.
