摘要
Peto, a biostatistician, and colleagues have given reasons why more clinical trials are needed with simple outcome measures and large numbers of patients.24 The first step in resuscitation research may be an example of where this dictum is appropriate. Once we have demonstrated the beneficial effects of some treatments on survival and awakening, we will need to address questions related to quality of life among those who awaken. Costly long-term follow-up studies with detailed and comprehensive measures of impairments and disabilities then will become necessary.
