The Millhon-Battelle esophageal motility probe developed for clinical use in the study of esophageal motility and acid perfusion can accurately measure absolute localized tissue pressures in situ, as well as hydrostatic pressure. It consists of a soft silicone rubber tube with three miniature direct-recording absolute pressure transducers located in its distal portion.
