RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PAUSING AND RETRIEVAL LATENCY IN SENTENCES OF VARYING GRAMMATICAL FORM

Measured pauses between words while 6 male and 4 female undergraduates recited and recalled 6 sentences of varying grammatical form. Single words from these sentences served as stimuli in a later test session where the time to respond with the next word in the sentence was measured. Times to retrieve items reflected the grammatical structure of the sentence. The possible influence of pausing on response latency was considered.
