摘要
Enzymatically generated superoxide radical, by reacting with hydrogen peroxide to produce the hydroxyl radical, depolymerized purified hyaluronic acid and bovine synovial fluid. Since phagocytizing polymorphonuclear leukocytes produce superoxide radicals, this reaction is suggested and shown to be quantitatively feasible as the in vivo mechanism of synovial fluid degradation in an inflamed joint. Superoxide dismutase and catalase protect synovial fluid against such degradation in vitro.
