CUE PROPERTIES OF EVENT RUN IN CHOICE DISCRIMINATION LEARNING

Much recent research indicates that the reinforcing event in binary prediction tasks serves as a discriminative cue for outcome event prediction. Ss (18 groups of 12 undergraduates each) were provided with auditory cues and cues derived from event run sequences in order to determine whether these run cues were comparable to more traditional discriminative cues. Results showed a good deal of comparability between the 2 types of cues. The reliability of the cue as a predictor of the event outcome appeared to determine whether the cue would influence choice behavior.
